Cooking Silkworm Chow
Microwave
- In a large microwave safe bowl combine 1/2 pound package of Powdered Silkworm Food with 2.5 cups of hot tap water. Mix completely until all traces of powder disappear, and you are left with a green pile of mush.
- Cover the bowl with plastic wrap to retain moisture during cooking.
- Cook on high for several minutes until mixture begins to boil. (Note: Mixture may rise while cooking, which is why a large bowl is necessary. It also becomes more fluid.)
- Stop microwave and stir vigorously for several seconds.
- Repeat Step 3 & 4, then jump to 6.
- Place a new sheet of plastic cling wrap inside the bowl. Press it tight against the chow so it clings directly to the surface of the hot chow. This will prevent excess moisture from forming during the cooling process, and keep the chow sterile.
- Allow to cool, put a lid on the container, and store in the refrigerator.
- Peel back plastic wrap, slice and serve when firm.
